For Sale:BSA B50MX
1971 BSA B50MX 500c.c. single, set up for road and off-road, (Dual-Sport) I have a current California title, registered until Jan 2021. Engine date of manufacture, March 1973. Engine and transmission was totally rebuilt in 2016 by Triumph Classic Motorcycles, in Costa Mesa, new main bearing, new JP piston .020”over, with the Megacycle MX cam, approx. 20hrs running since rebuild. I have all the receipts from TCM. It has Surflex clutch plates, and a new Amal Concentric Carb. The Ignition system is standard points and coil with a Podtronics regulator/rectifier with battery eliminator, although I do have a light weight 12v battery on it too. Frame is a Nov ’71, swing arm has been lengthened and front rake modified for better steering and handling. Oil system modified (holds more oil). Has 18" Yamaha alloy rear wheel with Yamaha hub. 1980 Yamaha YZ125 front forks with a 21” Yamaha wheel with a twin leading shoe front brake. Rear shocks are Honda Redwing and are the rebuildable type. It has new Pirelli MT21 Rally-Cross tires. The fenders are weather-worn Preston Petty. Super Trapp muffler. A Trail Tech speedo/computer is installed. The lights work as they should, and the bike is completely street legal for it’s year (’71 frame, no turn signals).
This was originally built by Frank Forster, a Northern California racer, in the early ‘90’s.The bike has been set up for 100 mile desert dualsport rides, so keeping things simple was the idea in the set up. (You can’t fix electronic ignition 20 miles from nowhere). Starts 1st kick when warm, 2nd or 3rd when cold. The motor sounds good and runs strong. It has a new 15T gearbox sprocket, transmission has all 4 gears, shifts well and the clutch is good. I am selling due to right knee issue.
I have numerous spares including
15⁰ auto advance unit
Yamaha front wheel and hub
NOS gas tank
Yamaha front fender
Different rear sprocket ratios
Factory workshop manual and owners manual.
